Nicole & Todd – Engaged!

Engagement· Weddings

9 Dec

Nicole write a fantastic blog and I have been a blog follower of hers for a long time! I was so excited when she emailed me asking to set up a time to take some photos of her and her boyfriend, at the time, for their Christmas cards. Nicole said that even though she and Todd weren’t engaged she was tired of not being able to send out adorable Christmas Cards like everyone else does this time of year. So, we decided to book a time for a quick little shoot. Nothing to lovey dovey she told me, since they weren’t engaged you know! Just some fun, classic, images of the two of them. I was so very excited to meet them both. I feel like I know Nicole and Todd so well because we follow each other on Instagram. I always loved seeing little glimpses into their life. Their love for travel, their love for all things Southern, their love of fantastic food and drinks, their love for their pet chickens (all with perfectly Southern Names), but I was even more exited to document their love for each other. I got a secret email from Todd a few days prior to the session, explaining that he had a little something planned, that he wanted to propose to Nicole during our Session!!! I couldn’t get over how perfect that would be. Nicole is definitely a planner and I know she knew something was in the works. So had they gone to a fancy place to eat, or a romantic location she would TOTALLY Have seen this coming, so I think it was fantastic that Todd contacted me on his own after she had planned the session on a Monday afternoon that held no significant meaning. I was so right!

Todd popped to his knee after I had only shot a couple of images and Nicole’s face was classic. She thought he was completely joking and making fun of the fact they were taking “engagement style” images even through they weren’t really engaged. Until he pulled out an incredibly beautiful diamond ring. Then it hit home. The giggles were amazing, and the look of surprise I believe was exactly what Todd was hoping for. “But its just a random Monday!!!!” she yelled! But it wasn’t.

Nicole and Todd, I cannot believe I was lucky enough to capture this moment for you. I am so happy for all that is to come in your love story!!! It only gets better from here!

One month ago today! Thank you so much for capturing this. I look back at the pictures with the biggest smile on my face. We are so awkward in front of a camera but you made it so fun. I guess I can’t be too mad at Todd for making me mess up my make up before we even took pictures! :) Maybe one of these days we will figure out a wedding date so we can check “photographer” off the “to do list”! :)

No one has ever had more gorgeous proposal photos! What an awesome plan to do them during the session (way to go Todd!). Jenn, you were so close and the light is incredible. They capture the emotion so beautifully. I wish I had pictures like these!!

If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you would recognize this woman. When I photographed her Wedding years ago I had no idea how happy I would be to have @mrsmakeitrainka in my life!!!! She is an incredible Woman and Mom and a million other things. She has been such a wonderful friend to me and I am crazy thankful to know her. At our last content shoot (precovid and still with a chill in the air) we had a little fun with some video and I threw together a little something for her with some images I have taken over the years. My edit skills are lacking but it was so fun to create and show another side of her! Shout out to another client and dear friend @shopacutabove @brittneypatty for letting us use your perfect #jaxmural
I had so many caption for this photo of my beautif I had so many caption for this photo of my beautiful couple who married the day before our State sheltered in place. So, lets keep it real. I am one month out from my first post Covid “big” Wedding. I have photographed a few elopements since the world fell apart (in more ways then one..) I am anxious to get back to beautiful gowns, love, laughter, family. With all that has happened in this world in the last few months I realize these events will never be the same, but I see them as reasons to believe in the future, to believe in faith, hope and love.

I have been sheltering in place. I have been hiding from social media. It just became to much. If you know me you know I wear my heart in my sleeve, nothing is ever “just business” it is always personal. I hold peoples worries and fears on my own shoulders right along with mine. My heart was breaking, the industry was falling apart and we started fighting a war that should’ve been over 100’s of years ago. At first I was afraid of not working for months, then I became fearful and afraid for loved ones who were diagnosed with Covid, then I became worried because my beautiful boys mental health will forever be affected by this and I had to choose being a Mother over my business for a short time, then I fell apart when I saw what the world was doing to beautiful humans who deserve every opportunity in life no matter their skin color. I was afraid. Heartbroken. I placed my son in front of every report of protests to reinstate everything I have taught him his whole life. We talked about Americas ugly history. We talked about kindness, empathy, loving people for who they are. He just kept saying “Why?”. I finally said what do you mean “Why”???? He had tears in his eyes and said why would people hurt someone because of their skin color”. Exactly. Why? I will never have the right words. I just know that it is my BIGGEST job to teach this child. Black lives matter, even if he doesn’t see color, and I pray he will always keep his kindness and compassion and continue on to fight for peoples rights.
