Cathy & Ben are Married!! {Destination Wedding Photographer}

Engagement· everything· Weddings

30 Jun
Ceremony and Reception : Cheeca Lodge and Spa, Islamorada, FL.

Hair by: Artistic Designs, Islamorada

Cake: Faithfully Yours by Faith Weaver

I met Cathy for the first time when she was the Maid of Honor at Taylor and James, Islamorada wedding. Cathy and I had chatted a few times prior, when she booked me for her wedding, but I couldn’t wait to really meet her. I was not dissapointed. Cathy was sweet, sincere, so kind. I was even more excited for their wedding when I met her Groom, Ben. People often ask me why I include engagement sessions with my packages, and its for one selfish reason. To get to know my clients. To know what makes them tick, what types of images they love, and how they interact. So that on their wedding day I know exactly what to tell them to make them feel comfortable in front of my camera. I didn’t get a change to photograph these two, since they live in Savannah, but I had an even better opportunity. I gotobserve them just being themselves at Taylor and James wedding. I watched how Ben made Cathy laugh constantly. I watched how Ben would smile across the dance floor while he watched his soon to be Bride announced with the wedding party. It was a sneak peek into how their own day would be. Cathy and Ben’s wedding day was, I believe, everything they truely love. Full of friends, and family, and most of all each other. Ben is so incredibly sweet, and he absoultley adores Cathy. I felt incredibly lucky to be there photographing their day. Cathy and Ben, I hope you both had an amazing honeymoon!! I hope to see ya’ll again soon!!

LOVE this shot…

I posted these two photos together because they were two of my favorite moments from Cathy and Ben’s Wedding. I loved their sand ceremony, because Ben’s glass held sand from Lake Michigan and Cathy’s held sand from Islamorada. So perfect to watch the two come together. I also loved the second image, because during the last prayer of their ceremony, when everyones heads were bowed, Cathy reached up and touched Ben’s cheek. This photo is why I’m there. To document moments. This moment was perfect. Mostly because besides myself, I may have been the only one who saw this besides the two of them. I loved how in the middle of their ceremony, they had their own private moment.

To say that the weather on the day of Cathy and Ben’s wedding was hot, would be an understatement. It was beyond hot. And steamy. So, after dancing the night away, the only possible way to end the night, was in the pool…

The Bridal party, not to be outdone by the Bride and Groom.

If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you would recognize this woman. When I photographed her Wedding years ago I had no idea how happy I would be to have @mrsmakeitrainka in my life!!!! She is an incredible Woman and Mom and a million other things. She has been such a wonderful friend to me and I am crazy thankful to know her. At our last content shoot (precovid and still with a chill in the air) we had a little fun with some video and I threw together a little something for her with some images I have taken over the years. My edit skills are lacking but it was so fun to create and show another side of her! Shout out to another client and dear friend @shopacutabove @brittneypatty for letting us use your perfect #jaxmural
I had so many caption for this photo of my beautif I had so many caption for this photo of my beautiful couple who married the day before our State sheltered in place. So, lets keep it real. I am one month out from my first post Covid “big” Wedding. I have photographed a few elopements since the world fell apart (in more ways then one..) I am anxious to get back to beautiful gowns, love, laughter, family. With all that has happened in this world in the last few months I realize these events will never be the same, but I see them as reasons to believe in the future, to believe in faith, hope and love.

I have been sheltering in place. I have been hiding from social media. It just became to much. If you know me you know I wear my heart in my sleeve, nothing is ever “just business” it is always personal. I hold peoples worries and fears on my own shoulders right along with mine. My heart was breaking, the industry was falling apart and we started fighting a war that should’ve been over 100’s of years ago. At first I was afraid of not working for months, then I became fearful and afraid for loved ones who were diagnosed with Covid, then I became worried because my beautiful boys mental health will forever be affected by this and I had to choose being a Mother over my business for a short time, then I fell apart when I saw what the world was doing to beautiful humans who deserve every opportunity in life no matter their skin color. I was afraid. Heartbroken. I placed my son in front of every report of protests to reinstate everything I have taught him his whole life. We talked about Americas ugly history. We talked about kindness, empathy, loving people for who they are. He just kept saying “Why?”. I finally said what do you mean “Why”???? He had tears in his eyes and said why would people hurt someone because of their skin color”. Exactly. Why? I will never have the right words. I just know that it is my BIGGEST job to teach this child. Black lives matter, even if he doesn’t see color, and I pray he will always keep his kindness and compassion and continue on to fight for peoples rights.
