A few months ago I was contacted by another photographer, asking if I could take some photos of her. These were no ordinary photos, Alex is graduating from JU next month and she wanted some great new photos to celebrate who she is now, and all the accomplishments she has made in the past few years as a person, a student, and a photographer. Alex and I would chat back and forth via facebook, but when we first met the night of our shoot I felt like I had known her forever. She’s just one of those girls. She’s down to earth, determined, real. She’s fun, and honest, and knows exactly who she is and what she wants, and you don’t find that every day. The day Alex graduates from college will be exactly 5 years to the day that I myself graduated from college. I would have killed to have had just a drop of the determination and confidence back then as Alex has at this point in her life. I was always told that college is what made you who you are, and as much as I loved college, and it gave me more memories and amazing moments then most people get to experience, college isn’t what makes you. Its the years after. When your friends marry, and have babies, you get first jobs, get laid off from jobs, and get job promotions. Its when you stand at a crossroads and decide to follow your dreams and not look back, instead of following the safe path everyone says you should take. Its the friendships that grow and flourish, when you aren’t living across the halls from one another anymore. So today, Sweet Alex, on your 24th birthday and with graduation only a few short weeks away, the whole world is in front of you. Take it in the palm of your hand and continue to follow your dreams. Time goes by so fast so enjoy every part of these next few years. I look forward to getting to know you better, and watching the mark you make on this big world!!
