30 years…

everything· Family

11 Dec

This time of year everyone talks about their blessings. I have a lot of blessings in my life, but I can think of two that play a vital role in this quest to turn my passion of photography into something more then just a passion one day. My Mom and Dad have played such an important role in this process. They are my own personal cheerleading squad, my sounding board, my rocks. They have provided moral support, emotional support and even a little financial support. They have come to my place to walk Sophie so I could go to photography class right after work and let me place tuition on their credit cards so I could pay them back instead of earning interest on my cards. When I break down and cry because I want my photos to look like Jasmine Star’s or Scarlett Lillian’s and they’ve come out looking like a 10 year old’s with a point and shoot camera they cheer me up and cheer me on saying things like “Jasmine Star didn’t learn this overnight” or “I’m sure Jessica Claire practiced over and over until she got this right”. Mom has even taken it upon herself to track down guinea pigs, I mean subjects, while I learn all about my flash, fstop and shutter speed. They’ve gotten involved in all the photographer’s blogs I follow and ask me things like “How’s Jasmine’s Mother?”. They even gave up their Thanksgiving evening so I could take some test shots out at the beach for an upcoming session. So, this time of year I am thankful to be blessed by 2 amazing people in my life. 2 people, might I add, that celebrated their 30 year wedding anniversary this year. Thanks Mom and Dad for your unconditional support, and since I am saving up for that new camera, consider this your Christmas gift :-) Love ya’ll.

If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you If you have followed me for a minute I am sure you would recognize this woman. When I photographed her Wedding years ago I had no idea how happy I would be to have @mrsmakeitrainka in my life!!!! She is an incredible Woman and Mom and a million other things. She has been such a wonderful friend to me and I am crazy thankful to know her. At our last content shoot (precovid and still with a chill in the air) we had a little fun with some video and I threw together a little something for her with some images I have taken over the years. My edit skills are lacking but it was so fun to create and show another side of her! Shout out to another client and dear friend @shopacutabove @brittneypatty for letting us use your perfect #jaxmural
I had so many caption for this photo of my beautif I had so many caption for this photo of my beautiful couple who married the day before our State sheltered in place. So, lets keep it real. I am one month out from my first post Covid “big” Wedding. I have photographed a few elopements since the world fell apart (in more ways then one..) I am anxious to get back to beautiful gowns, love, laughter, family. With all that has happened in this world in the last few months I realize these events will never be the same, but I see them as reasons to believe in the future, to believe in faith, hope and love.

I have been sheltering in place. I have been hiding from social media. It just became to much. If you know me you know I wear my heart in my sleeve, nothing is ever “just business” it is always personal. I hold peoples worries and fears on my own shoulders right along with mine. My heart was breaking, the industry was falling apart and we started fighting a war that should’ve been over 100’s of years ago. At first I was afraid of not working for months, then I became fearful and afraid for loved ones who were diagnosed with Covid, then I became worried because my beautiful boys mental health will forever be affected by this and I had to choose being a Mother over my business for a short time, then I fell apart when I saw what the world was doing to beautiful humans who deserve every opportunity in life no matter their skin color. I was afraid. Heartbroken. I placed my son in front of every report of protests to reinstate everything I have taught him his whole life. We talked about Americas ugly history. We talked about kindness, empathy, loving people for who they are. He just kept saying “Why?”. I finally said what do you mean “Why”???? He had tears in his eyes and said why would people hurt someone because of their skin color”. Exactly. Why? I will never have the right words. I just know that it is my BIGGEST job to teach this child. Black lives matter, even if he doesn’t see color, and I pray he will always keep his kindness and compassion and continue on to fight for peoples rights.
