Standby – Minor Technical Difficulties

Hello my sweet blog readers. It’s taken me a while to be able to write this because, well, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Last week I got the worst email an avid blogger like me could get. “Your blogs been hacked”. Don’t get me wrong. I am an avid backer-upper. You have to be in this business. Images are taken from my camera, downloaded on to my hard drive, and external hard drive, then triple backed up on a 3rd external hard drive. No one however, ever mentioned that you had to back up a blog! I assumed that since it was on the internet, everything I have ever posted, images, blog posts about my beautiful brides, and incredibly sweet families, would always be out there in internet never never land. Well, guess what happens when you assume folks. After a few days of crying and total devastation, mourning over a blog full of amazing memories, amazing images, and sweet client comments, my amazing blog designers over at Flosites were able to resurrect my blog from the abyss that is the internet. One glitch, they were able to get back all the words I’ve ever written, but not 10 months of images. So, internet, if you’re looking for images of weddings and newborns and families, engaged couples or published weddings please, please head over to my website at http://www.jennhopkinsphotography.com/. I will be, over the next few months, slowly trying to restore all the images that I have posted here along the way. Please stand by as I refill all the gaping holes in the blog, as well as update new blog posts.

I also want to take this time to tell all of you out there how amazing you were. I had Grooms emailing me with amazing tips and tricks on how to get back everything I’d lost, Brides asking tech gurus from their places of employment to help me out, I had blog readers from all over the U.S. finding what they could for me in their google readers and sending it to me to help me repopulate my blog. This tells me one thing. That I have incredible blog readers, and clients, and that I have been able to get across in my words just how important my clients, their images, and their memories are to me. Never have I been more aware of just what this blog means to me. It’s not just a place to post sneak peeks, or sessions, or important news. Its more than that. It’s a place where I go to write. Write about how my heart feels when I hold a newborn baby. How my heart feels when I see a newly engaged couple giggle at each other, a man and woman officially pronounced Husband and Wife, and how my heart feels full every single time I photograph someone.

So stay tuned sweet readers. One day I will get this baby back up and running.

Sisters

A few weeks ago I took a little road trip up to North Carolina to visit one of my best friends. While I was there I managed to fit in a few sessions, which I love doing. Its so fun to go somewhere new and to photograph in brand new locations. It really makes my creativity flow. When I met these two sisters I knew it was going to be an amazing session. 1. I love teenage girls (they are so fun!!!)  2. They wanted their session to take place at their family home, a 1902 farm house surrounded by beautiful fields and barns and 3. They were the most loving, beautiful, sweet and precious girls. This session is probably one of my favorites to date. I  mentioned above that I love teenage girls. Its true. When I photograph girls at this age I can’t help but to be taken back to the moment in time when I was “those girls”. Young, beautiful, carefree, busy falling in and out of love. Where my whole world revolved around my family and my friends. The most important thing was what we were going to do Friday night after the football game. A time when there is so much out there in front of you that the possibilities are endless. I wanted so bad to capture Amanda and Ashelynn this way. So that, 10 years down the road, when they find themselves grown they can look back and remember who they were then. I had such an amazing time with these girls. We started their session on the dirt road that leads to their  home, walked barefoot through their horse pasture and back to an old abandoned garage behind their house, then we loaded up their Daddies pick up truck with an old rattan sofa and headed out to a beautiful field and ended their session as the sun set beside a beautiful abandoned barn. Giggling and laughing the entire time. Amanda and Ashelynn thank you for allowing me a glimpse into your world, and for reminding me of all the beauty there is out there. Reminding me of who I used to be years and years ago, and inspiring me to continue to believe there is an entire world of possibilites out there for the taking.

I think its official, they just don’t make Seniors like they used to. Meet Katherine, one of my 2011 Senior Reps. I am not sure I can even come up with all the words to explain our session together. First off, she is so sweet, polite, intelligent, funny, beautiful, down to earth, and did I mention beautiful? All rolled into one. Sweet Katherine stays very busy travelling on mission trips with her church, and studying hard since she’s in her High School’s IB program, so I was so glad when she had a little time for a photo session at her favorite places, TPC Sawgrass and the beach. Katherine, I hope I could capture your beauty, both inside and out. I am so honored that you are representing my business!!! I see amazing things in your future, and to all of those whose futures you will touch with your presence.

  • Faith Bowyer: She's beautiful!
Love her shoes! And I love the shot of her laying on the grass looking away. Great shoot Jenn : ) (August 6, 2010 7:17 pm)

Every time my camera shutter clicked I had flashbacks. Flash backs to my Senior year. A year that was full of fun, and love. Heartbreak and Happiness. It was a year of growing, of learning who I really was. Friendships grew, and friendships faded. I found love and I lost love. It was a year of innocence along with a year of worry. Worry about where I would go from there? Who would I become? So much was won and lost in that Senior year. So many memories made. I will always have those memories. Many of those memories made me who I am today. So all I could think of while photographing Sara was that maybe these images would become apart of her memories. That this one evening at the beach, with her sweet friend Casey, would be something they would always think about, and giggle about for years to come. I remember doing something very similar with one of my very good high school friends. We “modeled” for a photographers portfolio. The funny thing is I remember exactly how I felt that day. Young, beautiful, full of life. I remember the photographer snapping away as my sweet friend and I giggled and laughed and knowing that that image was capturing exactly who we were right at that moment. Free. The entire world in our hands. Isn’t that what photos are all about? Capturing those moments and memories? Just like the moment I had 10 years ago, I wanted simply to capture who Sara is right now. I hadn’t met Sara before I photographed her but I could tell very quickly what she was all about. Sara was a mixture of alot of things. Equal parts girly and athletic, equal parts sassy and sweet. The perfect mix for someone ready to make her way in this world.
